Alex's Adventure Notes Continued
Please rest assured that student safety on these adventures is our primary priority and concern. As such we have taken several steps to minimize the risk intrinsic to any activity. As many of you know Grass Valley Charter is an Expeditionary Learning Outward Bound affiliated school. As such Outward Bound (OB) as well as the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) serve as a model and resource as we continue to refine this program. Some of the steps that have been taken include the following:
- All teachers are Wilderness First Aid Certified by the Wilderness Medical Institute.
- The Adventure & Service Coordinator is a certified Wilderness First Responder.
- A Risk Management Board of Directors, Risk Management Policy and Wilderness First Aid Protocols are currently being developed with consideration to our Adventure Benchmarks.
- When we contract or collaborate with outside organizations, we make sure that they are leaders in their field of expertise, and that they have taken steps to minimize risk in their own program.
- GVCS has prioritized ongoing professional development to address Risk Management concerns.

We are excited to launch the Adventure Benchmark Curriculum this year and to further distinguish our school locally, as well as nationally, within the network of Expeditionary Learning Outwards Bound Schools. We look forward to the continued support from you, our amazing families, as we seek to offer the best education possible to your child.
