Welcome to the world of innovative education. Grass Valley Charter School, a pre-K through eighth grade school located at the site of historic Bell Hill School, is one of four schools in the distinguished Grass Valley School District. Established in 1993, our school serves just under 400 students and is honored to be named a mentor school in a network of outstanding schools throughout the United States that have become Expeditionary Learning schools. Expeditionary Learning captures the power of Outward Bound principles and utilizes current national research about best teaching practices, combining them in the classroom to promote high academic achievement and character development. As a mentor Expeditionary Learning school, we emphasize active learning, collaboration, literacy, adventure, and teamwork. We offer three academic choices (click on title for additional information):
Core Academic is our classroom option for kindergarten through eighth grade students.
In the Core Academic program, students attend school five days a week in a unique
academic environment providing multi-age classrooms with an academically challenging
standard-based curriculum. We also offer a variety of extracurricular activities.
Discovery Studies is our home study option for kindergarten through eighth grade students.
This educational option is designed as a support for home schoolers and their families.
Is it an option rich with choices and flexibility.
The Grass Valley Charter School Preschool is open to children aged 3 years, nine months
to school age. Hours and days of operation are the same as GVCS school hours and days.
The preschool is located at 406 Dalton Street, adjacent to our school campus and has its own direct phone line, 273-0835.
Enrollment: Grass Valley Charter School is open to students living in Nevada, Placer, Yuba or Sierra counties.
