Deborah Pinto: Seventh and Eighth Grade
Deborah Pinto gets to do what she loves: spend every teaching day with twelve, thirteen and fourteen year olds exploring the ideas of today and yesterday.  Fluent in Spanish, accomplished with the guitar, and armed with the arsenal of years of teaching experience, Deborah forges a middle school experience tailored to the culture of each year’s new crew.

“Middle school learners are old children and young adults struggling to find their singular identity in today’s adolescent culture,” remarks Deborah.  “In middle school, kids seek mastery of social skills and it is a time when kids crave the acceptance of their peers. It can be very hard for some kids and
difficult, too, for a family. For those students who have been a part of GVCS for years, the 7th/8th grade class is the pinnacle of a student’s career. At last, he or she is the big kid! For others new to GVCS in their seventh or eighth grade year, Charter offers a new beginning, a chance to start over fresh and with a clean slate.”

The curriculum is rigorous and the expectations high for all learners. Communication between home and school is a cornerstone of success. With the field study, the adventure experiences and the service opportunities, it’s a fun place to grow and learn.

Family, hiking, cross-country skiing, practicing yoga, and cooking keep Deborah balanced.
